Tyssen Community School is changing. Be part of that change.
In the midst of worldwide changes, our relatively small, inner city school is ready for a change.
Firstly, we are changing our name. This is due to the dubious past of the Tyssen family; who the school is currently named after. As part of the Review, Rename, Reclaim Project, Hackney Education informed the school that the Tyssen family played a part in the slave trade. The local authority has, consequently, supported the school to change their name. After consultation with our families and the local community, we decided on the new name Oldhill Community School and Children Centre.
Along with the name change, comes an abundance of other changes all supported by Hackney Education.
Now that we have chosen a new name, we need your help to ensure that every child in Tyssen is ready for the changes in September 2021. Every child will need a new school uniform, and we know that in these hard times some of our parents will find it difficult to buy their children a brand-new uniform; especially when they have more than one child. Initially. we aim to supply a school uniform to each child free of charge. For this reason, we are looking for donations to support our families.
We will also use funds raised to ensure that every child has a tablet or a laptop; although we are certain all children have a device some children are working on phones, which we don’t think is right. The government has provided some devices but we need more.
100% of funds raised will go towards the children at Oldhill Community School and Children Centre. We really want each and every child to have a great start to the new school year, and believe if we can get this support, we will be able to ensure this.
We aim to make Oldhill Community School and Children Centre the best school of its kind in London. Please help us make this a reality.
