At Tyssen our aim is to enrich the children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development through the teaching of Religious Education. Tyssen’s Religious Education programme offers children opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of different religions, beliefs, values and traditions whilst also exploring their own. We follow the Hackney scheme of work which was written by members of the SACRE (Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education) which covers 6 major faiths; Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Judaism.
RE is taught every other half term weekly to ensure that the children have regular opportunities to learn and discover about faiths and beliefs in our multicultural world.
At Tyssen we are incredibly lucky to have such a large multi-faith community and we have yearly celebration events including Fireworks for Dawali, Winter Wonderland for Christmas including a school production of the nativity story and a party and feast for Eid. This brings the whole school community together and is another way children are taught to celebrate their differences.
We follow the Hackney schemes of work which has themes of British values running through it. Through the teaching of RE children develop an understanding of respect for others and valuing both their own and others views and beliefs.
