Developing healthy children is an important part of life at Tyssen. Whether it is through encouraging healthy eating, the development of sport and active lifestyles or the nurturing of healthy minds you can rest assured that our staff are doing everything they can to help your children.

 

The table below illustrates just some of the things available to the children to help their healthy development.

Children are both involved and consulted in regard to the school meals cooked by our own school cook in our kitchen

Cycling lesson for Year 4, 5 and 6 from beginner to confident on road. Balance bikes in Early Years playground and taster sessions Year 1 & 2.

Jumping Beans healthy eating and exercise 6 week course

A unique class starting in May that mixes keep fit, dance, cooking and healthy eating. Teaching children how to maintain a healthy life styles for life.

PSA Family Gardening Group

Runs once a month and encourages an interest in gardening, particularly in food production with children and their parents.

Fussy Eating Workshop for parents – 16th May 2017

Run by a dietitian, this workshop will give practical advice and suggestions on healthy eating, how to deal with fussy eaters and meal portion size.

Lunchtime Jam

We have music played in the playground every Friday during lunch time play to encourage dancing for all children and staff.

Hackney Personal Best for Year 3

Hackney’s established sport and healthy lifestyles programme. It encourages young people across the borough to achieve their personal best in Olympic and Paralympic sports. Personal Bests uses sports to enthuse and encourage individuals to try, take part and to improve.

Family Cycling Club

Cycling club held in the playground every Wednesday for families. Participants trained from beginner to “on road” training. Bikes provided if needed.

SEN Physical Exercise sessions

Run by a Tyssen parents who is a qualified fitness instructor. Visual, sensory and fun games to inspire children to embrace new sports and activities and increase confidence.

Walk4Wildlife – Sponsored Guinness World Record attempt

Join us on 19th may for our world record attempt. Children have been working hard on getting sponsored for this walk! And raising much needed funds for Paradise Wildlife Park.

Hackney Half Marathon

On Sunday 30th April all children and staff who are participating will be heading to Hackney Marshes to take part in the 5.5kl race.

Healthy eating Week – 12th June – 16th June

All year groups will choose an activity to raise awareness of healthy lifestyles

WO Sports Fitness Workshops

All children from Daycare up to year 6 will take part in these fun fitness workshops.

A-Life Exercise sessions

All children from Daycare up to year 6 will take part in these fast paced and fun exercise sessions.

Bike around the borough

Tyssen children will join 36 other schools all taking part in the 9 mile cycle around Hackney.

Runs once a month and encourages an interest in gardening, particularly in food production with children and their parents.

Toast Tent

To ensure all children have the opportunity to have a have breakfast, toast is made and distributed to children in the playground by PSA members and Year 6 volunteers.

Beat the Street

A community wide walking challenge which we won last year! The game invites children, parents and staff to play the fun free game for 6 weeks from 20th September and ending on 8th November as a whole team, to make the most of the walk to and from school, around town and to work, explore parks and green spaces. Each child, parent and staff member has been given a card so they can collect points for “Team Tyssen”.

Gardening after school club

Every Monday children will get involved in everything from winter planting and Sunflower and bean harvesting to building bug hotels and making Bouquet Garni, there’s something for everyone in this club.

Shoreditch Trust Health Coach

Fortnightly on Mondays we have Health coach, Jo Williams who will be in our playground promoting free health services including health checks, health coaching, exercise classes and help giving up smoking. Jo will be in our playground on the following Mondays: 25th September. 9th & 23rd October. 6th & 20th November and 4th & 18th December.

Morning wake-up shake up

Children in our Early Years breakfast club take part in a daily dance and exercise routine to increase physical activity and help children go to class ready to learn.

Saving Londoners Lives

First aid training for children – this term children in years 2 and 3 will learn how to treat bumps, bruises and bleeding wounds and how to deal with someone choking as well as learning the recovery position.

National Sugar Awareness week – 16th Jan to 20th Jan

All year groups will choose an activity to raise awareness of the amount of sugar in the food and drink we consume.

Handz and Feet Workshop – 10th and 11th January. 

Run by the person who developed the hands and feet dance workshop for STOMP, this workshop offers a new and engaging form of dance using only hands and feet.

Girls Netball Club

We are excited to announce the launch of a new netball club starting after school this term on a Monday. The children will learn the skill of the game as well as how to work as a team.

Family Yoga Classes – Starting 15th January for 9 weeks

In this busy modern age, it is proving difficult for families to find quality time together in between school, activities, work and other commitments. Not to mention the constant distraction of TV’s, computers and other devices. So why not join our Yoga class this term and enjoy some quality time whilst gaining the many benefits that yoga offers.

Family food label reading workshop

Food labels can be very confusing and tricky to understand. Often we don’t have the time to spend trying to work out what they mean and how to use them.

However, a few quick tips can make shopping for healthy food for your family a whole lot easier and quicker. Knowing what nutrition information to look for, can help you make the best choice for your health and avoid unnecessary saturated fat, added salt and added sugars. Watch this space for our upcoming food label workshop for families in March.

Core Health Family Fitness Sessions – Starting 24th January for 8 weeks

A family programme of different activities around healthy eating and nutrition, getting active and emotional well-being all achieved in a fun and exciting way.  The programme will give all participants a deeper understanding of a healthy lifestyle and surrounding nutritional aspects, to develop confidence and self-esteem through fun exercise activities.

 

 

 

 

 

Jumping Beans healthy eating and exercise 6 week course

Jumping Beans is unique in that it mixes Keep Fit, Dance, Healthy cooking & Eating. They teach children how to maintain a healthy life style for life based on a selection of foods, snacks & shake, exercise.

The club will take place over the course of 6 weeks. The sessions will start promptly at 3:45pm and will run until 5:15pm. The children will prepare food, play games/ exercise and then either eat the food or take it home for you to see and taste too. The last session will be a celebration where you will be invited to taste your child’s cooking. Maybe in the future you could even start trying some of their recipes at home and they can help you cook it.

PSA Family Gardening Group

Mini Mermaids Running club

A fantastic new club for girls in year 3. Mini Mermaid Running Club is a self-development club with a mission to tackle issues of self- confidence while giving girls a chance to fall in love with running, moving their bodies and experiencing the satisfaction of crossing a finish line. During the 8 week programme, the girls are taught the value of exercise and moving their bodies regardless of their size, shape or ability. The workouts are not focused on being first or running fast, but rather on each girl finding their own happy pace.

Healthy Eating Week 12/6/18 – 15/6/18

We will be running many activities during this week including a “sporty day”. We will also have a Team GB Athlete coming in to provide workshops for the whole school on Friday 15th June.

Online Safety Coffee Morning

Worried about keeping your child safe online? Would like to find out how to set up parental controls on your computer, tablet or phone? Come along to our coffee morning and have all your questions answered by our Computing Manager Jose Fernandes. Keep an eye out for the flyer with the date for the summer term coffee morning.

Year 3 Hackney Personal Best – 3rd sessions and finals

Hackney’s established sport and healthy lifestyles programme. It encourages young people across the borough to achieve their personal best in Olympic and Paralympic sports. Personal Bests uses sports to enthuse and encourage individuals to try, take part and to improve. The Personal Best Grand Final will take place on Wednesday 27th June.

This is a five week family cooking class. Each week you will cook a variety of delicious meals and snacks. Pick up tips on how to save money and cook on a budget as well as tips on making healthy versions of family favourites. Come along, try new foods, meet new people and have fun. Core Health Family Workshops

A new healthy lifestyles family club. The club will take place over the course of 8 weeks, starting in April 2018. The sessions will start at 3:45pm and will run until 5:45pm every Wednesday. You and your child/children will take part in fun fitness games as well as learning about nutrition, reading food labels and hidden sugars in our food as well as enjoying a trip to the supermarket. This will be a wonderful opportunity for some family fun. To book your places please speak to Michelle.
