Headteacher’s Welcome

It’s a great pleasure to welcome you on behalf of the children, staff and governors to the Tyssen Primary School and Children’s Centre website.

We are a large friendly and busy school situated in the Stamford Hill area of Hackney. We are a two form entry school with a Children’s Centre. We offer child care for children aged 6 months to 5 years and education from 3 years to 11 years. We believe that school should be an enjoyable and enriching experience for all our children; one which enables them to progress well and achieve their full potential. Our school motto is ‘Together for Excellence’ – together we encourage our children to be ambitious and aspire to succeed.

We have very high expectations of ourselves to provide an excellent education for all the children who attend our school and centre. We have high expectations for children’s’ learning, behaviour and attendance.

We have an expectation that parents/carers will take the time to find out about our school and centre before their children join so that we can work together to support and promote our successful ethos.

There is a strong emphasis on working in close partnership with parents and carers to promote our positive behaviour policy in which we challenge any forms of poor behaviour, bullying or negative attitude to learning.

During our last Ofsted report we achieved a good judgement with outstanding features for leadership, behaviour and safety.  We were proud when Ofsted made the following comments about our school in December (2013):

‘Consistently good teaching provides pupils with memorable experiences and opportunities.’

‘Pupils at Tyssen adore coming to school and pupils have excellent attitudes to learning.’

‘Vibrant classrooms and corridors contribute to a very stimulating atmosphere for learning.’

This website aims to give you an overview of the school, as well as providing regularly updated information for parents, children and the community. You can view our prospectus here.

We are very happy to share our wonderful and vibrant school! We look forward to meeting you and working with you.

Paul Fleming
